BACKBONE FREIGHTER LEASING enjoys steady tailwinds. As the launch customer of Kansas Modification Center (KMC), BACKBONE will provide the cargo industry with newly converted Boeing 777-300ER freighter aircraft - the B777-300ERCF.
The all-new B777-300ERCF is the most modern solution in the large widebody freighter market and is about to form the new backbone of the freighter industry. The Boeing 777-300ERCF is a freighter that burns less fuel and maximizes payload thanks to its low operating empty weight.
BACKBONE was established by the Dr. Peters Group and has access to the group’s broad network. It draws on the expertise of the group’s aviation team with its long track record in the aviation industry and the leasing of widebody aircraft.
As the launch customer of the program, BACKBONE secured 10 early conversion slots with KMC. It also enjoys a strong relationship with its partners – KMC and NIAR WERX.
“Widebody passenger-to-freighter conversions range amongst the most complex projects in aircraft modifications and obviously on time performance is of essence in our industry. Avoiding risks and providing certainty to our airline customers, as well as to our investors, is of utmost importance to us. With KMC sharing these values, we are absolutely sure to have the right partner on our side”, says Christian Mailly, Head of Aviation of Dr. Peters Group.
Kansas Modification Center, founded by Jim Gibbs, and led by CEO Jorge Della Costa, was established in 2021 to meet the industry’s growing need for MRO and conversion programs. The KMC team carries an established ethos in aviation research and development. Located in Wichita, Kansas, the heart of North America’s aerospace industry; KMC brings together the best technologically advanced teams necessary to accomplish one of the most formidable and challenging passenger-to-freighter conversions in today’s stringent regulatory environment.
WERX, a division of Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research, provides engineering, modification/repair/overhaul, environmental test and flight test/certification services. The NIAR WERX team includes a total of 425 program managers, engineers, contractors, technicians and paid applied learning students.
